Painless Oral Surgery at Your Lincroft Dentist
Truly comfortable oral surgery? Yes, it’s possible! At Newman Springs Dental Care, we ensure that every procedure is pleasant.
What is Oral Surgery?
Oral surgery covers a wide range of procedures. It includes tooth extraction, dental implant placement, surgery for temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD) and complex restorations. One of the most common procedures we perform is wisdom tooth extraction. Impacted wisdom teeth must be removed to prevent infection and damage to surrounding structures.
Getting dental implants also involves multi-step surgery. First, the dentist embeds a titanium screw into your jawbone and waits for the area to heal completely. The abutment is then placed on the implant to hold the crown. Finally, the crown is capped over the abutment. Patients who have low bone density also need bone graft surgery to reinforce the implant site.
Do You Need Oral Surgery?
Your Lincroft dentist is the best person to ask if you need oral surgery. Surgery may be recommended for:
Pain that does not go away. Pain is a sign that the tooth is already at crisis stage. Persistent toothache may be due to trauma, advanced gum disease or severe decay. If untreated, infection can spread to surrounding areas and cause serious problems. Pain in the jaw may also be a sign of impacted wisdom tooth and TMD.
Stains. Enamel stains and unusual discoloration may be signs of advanced tooth decay, even if pain is absent.
Injury. Oral surgery repairs broken bones, chipped teeth and fractured jaws.
Infection. Infection can be life-threatening if not treated promptly. Affected teeth may also need to be removed during surgery.
The dentist typically uses local anesthetic for painless surgery. For patients with dental anxiety, we also offer sedation dentistry in Lincroft. Sedatives can be administered by mouth (oral conscious sedation) or straight into the vein (IV sedation).
Don’t forget to ask about sedation if you experience overwhelming fear. Click here to learn more.
