If you were to walk down the streets of Lincroft or any other town or city in the area, you would discover the same thing about dentists: people associate us with fear. It’s just a well-known fact that society doesn’t care for dentists, no matter how hard dentists try to care for society!

What created this situation? Well, our guess is that a lot of things did this. First, dentistry used to be much different. There was a lot of pain and fear associated because dentists didn’t have the tools or calming agents that we have now.

The older generations still remember terrifying experiences at the dentist, and those stories are carried down. Hollywood has picked up those stories as well and used them time and again in storylines and plots to add a touch of drama to a situation!

We are on a mission to change the way the dental office is perceived. Sedation options available here at Newman Springs Dental Care are fantastic, and they can absolutely change the way you feel about all of your future appointments!

What Makes You Afraid?

Regardless of why society is afraid of the dentist, we need you to think about why YOU are afraid. Did you have a bad experience as a child, or are you just basing your fears off of what you’ve heard in movies, from friends, or the general consensus from those around you? Understanding your own fear will help you overcome it.

If you had a bad experience, we understand your fear. It will take you time to build trust in a dentist again, but we are up for the challenge! If your fear is more of a word-of-mouth type fear, it will be easy to get over. You simply need to experience quality dental care, and we can give you that here at Newman Springs.

Don’t Give Fear Control

It’s really ok to be afraid of the dentist. We don’t agree with it, and we want you to overcome it, but it’s still ok! The problem happens when you let that fear take control of your care. If fear is keeping you from having a healthy mouth, then we definitely have some concerns! Let’s take a look at what’s at risk.

Poor Oral Health Leads to Systemic Health Problems

Your oral health plays a huge role in the health of the rest of your body. If your teeth and gums aren’t healthy, you should expect trouble because it is coming! Gum disease is especially known for causing problems as the bacteria travels throughout your body into other areas, like the heart, pancreas, brain, etc. Gum disease is linked with all sorts of health concerns, but it is easily prevented with routine visits to your, you guess it, dentist!

Making it Easier for You

We are here to make things a little bit easier for you! We have the ability to offer different sedation options to make sure that every patient has access to the help they need to remain comfortable throughout an entire appointment or procedure. Let’s take a look at a couple options below.

Nitrous Oxide – Better known as laughing gas, nitrous oxide is a mild sedation technique. By wearing a mask, you are able to inhale the sedation as a gas. It will instantly calm your mind and body so that we can get work done while you relax and feel no fear or anxiety!

Oral Conscious Sedation – Laughing gas isn’t enough for every patient. Some patients really need a stronger sedative in order to remain calm throughout an entire procedure. For these patients, we recommend oral conscious sedation.

This form of sedation is a prescription pill that we will ask you to take about an hour before your appointment. By the time a friend drives you to the office, you’ll be feeling great! The sedation will last through your entire procedure, and your friend can drive you home while you enjoy the comfort of conscious sedation for a few more hours.
